The Ultra Fabrication- York Team Knockout Cup – Round 1 Report

The opening round of the York Team Knockout Cup delivered plenty of drama, big wins and nail-biting finishes on Wednesday night, as 16 teams booked their place in Round 2.

Bishopthorpe SC A laid down an early marker with a commanding 7–1 victory over The Rec, while Clockhouse A recorded the night’s only whitewash, sweeping past Huntington WMC B 7–0. It was a strong evening all-round for the Clockhouse sides, with the B team (7–1 v Huntington SC B) and the Z team (7–5 v Lighthorseman) also progressing.

Elsewhere, Crescent B (7–2 v Rack’Em Up) and Dick Turpin A (7–1 v The Hammers Too) eased through, while Haxby Sports Bar overcame a spirited Hogs Head A 7–4. Both Heworth sides produced the most dramatic contests of the round – Heworth A edging Edinburgh Legs 7–5 and Heworth B toppling Huntington SC A by the same scoreline.

There was joy for Huntington WMC A, who beat Hogs Head B 7–4, and for Lawrence 8 Ballers, who impressed in a 7–2 win over Ainsty A. The Mitre derby went the way of More Mitre, running out 7–4 winners.

Edinburgh Arms A produced a strong away performance to beat The Windmill 7–3, while at York Hospital Social Club there was mixed fortune for the hosts: Hospital Club A triumphed 7–4 against Cross Keys Dunnington, but the B team were beaten 7–2 by #UptheBish, who advance in style.

Hunrington WMC C progress to round 2 as the Saddle forfeited the match

With Round 1 complete, the competition already promises plenty of intrest with several heavyweights showing their intent and a few outsiders proving they could cause upsets as the Cup unfolds. Winners enter round 2 and the losers enter the plate competition

Good luck to all teams in the competition!
