York Pool League – Weekly Round-Up

Matchday 23 | The Run-In Begins

With only three fixtures remaining in the regular season, the York Pool League season is reaching boiling point.

Titles remain undecided, promotion races are tightening and relegation fears are growing by the week — and with Judgement Night now firmly on the horizon, every single point feels more important than ever.

But once again, all eyes are on the Super League, where #UptheBish and Clockhouse A continue to push each other all the way in one of the closest title races the league has seen in years.

Super League – Neither Side Will Give In

#UptheBish Stay Top

League leaders #UptheBish kept themselves at the summit with an impressive 9–3 home victory over Heworth A at Bishopthorpe Sports and Social Club.

Adam Myerscough once again produced a flawless unbeaten performance to lead from the front, while Si Morris also remained undefeated on the night. Jimmy Lee contributed two important wins, while Rob Barron added another valuable point as the leaders continued to grind out results under pressure.

Heworth A managed to respond through Mark Baldwin, who picked up two victories, and Steve Thomas, but #UptheBish were comfortably the stronger side across the evening.

The result moves the leaders onto 185 points with just three matches left to play.

Clockhouse A Keep the Pressure Relentless

If #UptheBish were hoping for breathing space at the top, Clockhouse A quickly made sure there would be none.

Clockhouse A produced one of the most dominant displays of the season with a crushing 11–1 victory over Burton Warriors to remain firmly in the title hunt.

Dan Potter and Craig Fox set the tone early before Martin Oxberry, Daniel Witcombe and Danny Bodden all delivered unbeaten performances to complete a near-perfect evening for the home side.

Burton Warriors avoided the whitewash thanks to a solitary win from John Austwick, but the defeat leaves them increasingly dragged into the battle at the wrong end of the table.

Clockhouse A now sit just three points behind #UptheBish on 182 points, ensuring the title race remains completely alive heading into the final weeks.

Survival Fight Heating Up

While the battle at the top continues to dominate attention, the fight to avoid the bottom two places in the Super League is becoming equally dramatic.

This season, the teams finishing 12th and 13th will face off on Judgement Night to determine who retains their place in the Super League and who drops into Division Two.

York Hospital Club A remain bottom after suffering an 8–4 home defeat to Bishopthorpe SC A and are now running dangerously short of time to escape trouble.

Burton Warriors also remain heavily involved after their difficult night against Clockhouse A leaves them just above the foot of the table.

Lighthorseman may have secured one of the biggest wins of the week after edging Huntington WMC A 7–5, creating a little breathing room between themselves and the danger zone.

The Hammers also remain under pressure after narrowly losing 7–5 to Huntington WMC C, while Clockhouse Z’s impressive 9–3 victory over Clockhouse P may prove to be the result that secures their safety.

At both ends of the Super League table, tension is building fast.

Super League Round-Up

Elsewhere in the division:

  • Huntington WMC C strengthened their hold on third place with a hard-fought 7–5 win over The Hammers.
  • Clockhouse Z recorded arguably the standout away performance of the week with a superb 9–3 victory over Clockhouse P.
  • Dick Turpin A were held to a frustrating 6–6 draw by Huntington WMC B.
  • Bishopthorpe SC A boosted their own campaign with an excellent 8–4 win away at York Hospital Club A.

Super League Top Three

  1. #UptheBish – 185 pts
  2. Clockhouse A – 182 pts
  3. Huntington WMC C – 165 pts

Three points separate the top two.
Three matches remain.
The title race could still go either way.

Division Two – Clockhouse B Crowned Champions

Clockhouse B are officially Division Two champions after another emphatic display saw them defeat The Cross Keys Dunnington 10–2 away from home.

Their remarkable total of 203 points means they can no longer be caught, sealing promotion to next season’s Super League and capping a superb campaign from start to finish.

Behind them, however, the race for second and third place remains hugely important.

This year, the teams finishing second and third in Division Two will meet on Judgement Night, with the winner securing a place in next season’s Super League.

Haxby Sports Bar strengthened their position with a commanding 10–2 win over The Mitre, while Edinburgh Arms A remain firmly in the mix following a battling 6–6 draw away at Heworth B.

Lawrence 8 Ballers also continue to apply pressure after edging More Mitre 7–5.

With only a few games remaining, the fight for those playoff places remains wide open.

Division Two Relegation Battle

At the opposite end of the table, the pressure is intensifying.

The teams finishing 12th and 13th in Division Two will face off on Judgement Night to determine who stays up and who drops into Division Three.

Rack'Em Up gave themselves a huge boost with a crucial 7–5 victory over The Hogs Head A, while The Mitre remain heavily involved in the battle following another difficult defeat.

Crescent A are also not yet safe after slipping to an 8–4 loss against The Ozzy Osbournes.

The margin for error is disappearing rapidly.

Division Three – Promotion Race Still Alive

Touching Cloth remain top of Division Three after grinding out a valuable 7–5 win over Clockhouse W.

The Hammers Too continue to push hard after defeating York Hospital Club B 8–4, while The Hogs Head B kept themselves firmly in contention with a dominant 10–2 victory over The Rec.

This season, the teams finishing second and third in Division Three will also meet on Judgement Night for a place in Division Two next year.

Huntington Sports Club A strengthened their own playoff hopes with an 8–4 victory over The Beagle A, while Huntington Sports Club B picked up an important 7–5 away win at Ainsty A.

Elsewhere, The Windmill continued their excellent late-season form with another strong victory over Crescent B.

Judgement Night Is Coming

With the regular season entering its final weeks, attention is already beginning to shift towards Judgement Night — where entire seasons will come down to one final showdown.

  • Super League 12th vs 13th – battle to avoid relegation
  • Division Two 2nd vs 3rd – battle for promotion to the Super League
  • Division Two 12th vs 13th – battle to avoid relegation
  • Division Three 2nd vs 3rd – battle for promotion to Division Two

Across every division, the stakes could hardly be higher.

But at the very top, the spotlight remains firmly fixed on #UptheBish and Clockhouse A.

Three points apart.
Three games remaining.
Everything still to play for.
