1. Policy Statement
Macclesfield Pool League (MPL) is committed to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants, particularly children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children involved in our activities in line with the UK Government’s statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children.
2. Named Safeguarding Lead
The designated safeguarding lead (DSL) for Macclesfield Pool League is:

The DSL is responsible for ensuring that safeguarding concerns are handled appropriately and for liaising with statutory services when required.
3. Procedures for Reporting Concerns
Any concerns relating to the safety or welfare of a child must be reported to the Safeguarding Lead immediately.
In the absence of the Safeguarding Lead, concerns should be reported to the Deputy Lead (if applicable) or directly to local safeguarding services or the police if immediate risk is suspected.
Reports must be documented and treated with the utmost confidentiality.
In all cases, the child’s welfare is paramount.

4. Vetting and DBS Checks
All staff, volunteers, and committee members who have regular or unsupervised contact with children will be subject to Enhanced DBS checks.
DBS checks must be renewed every three years or in line with national guidance.
No individual will be permitted to work directly with children until a satisfactory check is received.
5. Code of Conduct
All those involved in Macclesfield Pool League must:
Treat all children and young people with respect and dignity.
Never engage in or tolerate any form of bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
Avoid being alone with a child where possible.
Never initiate physical contact or engage in inappropriate conversations or behaviour.
Follow reporting procedures for any safeguarding concerns or disclosures.
Act as a role model and uphold the integrity of the League at all times.
Breaches of this Code may result in disciplinary action and/or reporting to relevant authorities.
6. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually, or in response to significant changes in legislation or safeguarding practice. All members will be informed of any updates and trained accordingly where necessary.
