This week marked the return of League Pool, with Old EPA rules reinstated and any playing orders back in play after the chaos of recent weeks. It also signals the official start of the second half of the season, with both the League and Cup now at the halfway stage. With plenty still to play for, several teams are beginning to turn up the heat, carrying strong Cup form into the League.
The big question remains: will the current leaders still be out in front come season’s end, or is a serious challenge on the horizon? Three Tuns look unstoppable in Division 1, while in Division 2, Staines Cons New are mounting a strong challenge as WR All Stars dropped points this week.
-------------------------------------
🏆 Division 1 Highlights
Egham & Hythe Whites 4 - 8 WR Sports A
WR Sports A remain the only unbeaten side across both divisions but sit nine points behind Three Tuns, who are currently showing dominant form. Egham & Hythe Whites started brightly, with Dan Emmett producing a superb reverse dish against Ethan Coates in the opening frame. Bailey Hyman followed up with a solid win over Rob Malik to give the home side an early 2–0 lead.
However, momentum soon swung when captain Ben Reading steadied the ship, sparking a WR Sports comeback that saw them turn the match around to lead 4 – 2.
Young Freddie Morrison, coming into the match fresh from a Snooker Handicap win Jimmy Whites Club at the weekend, was in fine form. He claimed an excellent win over Ben Reading in frame seven and repeated the feat in frame twelve — the only two frames Egham & Hythe managed after their strong start.
A composed and determined response from WR Sports saw them close out the match 8–4 and secure another important victory. If they are to retain last season’s title, they’ll be hoping Three Tuns start dropping points sooner rather than later.
NRS 1 - 11 Three Tuns
The team to beat, and on paper this should have been a much closer contest than the scoreline suggests — a real reflection of the form Three Tuns have found themselves in recently. One player who deserves special mention is Rob Mutter, who was in outstanding form, producing two break dishes in three frames. The first came against Scott Kelly, with the second arriving in frame ten against Vinny Mitchell.
A dominant display from Three Tuns saw them race into a 5–1 lead early on, with Jason Willerby claiming the sole frame for NRS. The second half followed a very similar pattern, with George Smith leading the charge. No frames were dropped after the interval, as Three Tuns cruised to another emphatic 11–1 victory, securing back-to-back 11-1 wins in the League.
SS&NR Club 4 - 8 Staines Cons D
SS&NR came into the second half of the League buoyed by some positive Cup form, but it wasn’t to be their night as they slipped to a home defeat against a strong Staines Cons D side.
An early 3–1 lead saw SS&NR make a promising start, but the momentum soon shifted as the match turned into a tale of two halves. Staines Cons D went on to win seven of the final eight frames, with Paul Fisher the only player able to respond, beating new Staines signing Dale Moore-Saxton.
A solid win for Staines Cons D sees them move up to fourth place in Division 1, while SS&NR remain in the relegation zone with work to do, sitting 11 points behind NRS in sixth.
Sunbury Con Club B 8 - 4 Shepperton Sports
After last week’s excellent Cup win against WR Sports A, Sunbury Con Club came into this fixture full of confidence and carried that momentum into a solid home victory over Shepperton Sports. Min Kirby got Sunbury off to the perfect start with a win against Gary Weltiner, who has featured less regularly of late — perhaps not a fan of Blackball rules?
Shepperton responded well, with Allyn Sutton pulling a frame back in frame four, followed by a win for Charles Smith in frame five. The match remained finely balanced, with both sides locked at 4–4 after eight frames.
It was Sunbury who found the extra gear when it mattered, with Patrick Casey defeating the ever-reliable Lito Estrella to spark a strong finish and lead Sunbury to an 8–4 victory.
The win leaves Sunbury comfortably mid-table and clear of relegation trouble, while Shepperton Sports look increasingly doomed, sitting 14 points adrift of safety.

🏆 🏆 Division 2 Highlights
Egham & Hythe Ladies 3 - 9 Sunbury Con A
The Egham & Hythe Ladies, who joined the Cup action earlier in the season, got their League campaign underway with a tough fixture against a side charging up the table and looking to close the gap on the top two.
Sunbury Con A showed their early intent, racing into a 5–1 lead, with the only response coming from Maria Griffiths‑Pressman, who picked up a fine win against Shaun Meehan. Marsha Rogers then offered a glimmer of hope for the Ladies with a strong victory over Ben Pryce.
Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly halted in frame nine, as Ross Lindie produced a superb reverse dish against Clare McCarthy, who was making her League debut — a tough introduction on her first frame of the night.
The Ladies did manage to claim another frame, with Captain Amber Pressman stepping up to defeat Shaun Meehan, handing him his second loss of the night. Nevertheless, Sunbury Con A maintained control throughout and secured a deserved 9–3 victory.
Jolly Butcher 5 - 7 Eddies
Another side who used the Cup as a platform to find some strong form were Eddies, who continued that momentum with an away win at Jolly Butcher. Leo Cooper got Jolly off to the perfect start with an opening-frame victory over Chris Atwell. Leo Cooper has been the standout performer in Division 2 so far, topping the player stats with an impressive 13 wins from 15 matches.
Eddies weren’t fazed by the early setback, responding well to take four of the opening six frames and establish a 4–2 lead.
Jolly Butcher, led by the Cooper family, fought back as Jason Cooper and Leo Cooper levelled the match at 4–4. However, Jon Martin and Gerry Hurley shut the door on any comeback hopes, restoring Eddies’ advantage and seeing them over the line to gaurentee a minimum of a draw.
After this, Jolly Butcher remain near the foot of the table and are still searching for wins, though performances are improving, while Eddies continue to hold steady in mid-table.
Staines Cons New 9 - 3 London Stone
Staines Cons New, who have moved into their new home at Staines Con Club from The Freemans Arms in some force, continue to find winning ways as they push hard for a return to the top division under Captain, Leader, and 12‑nil Legend Grant Baker. A flying start saw Staines race into a commanding 5–0 lead, with the only response from London Stone coming in frame six, where Andy Henson overcame Steve Kent.
Any hopes of a comeback were quickly shut down as Ricardo Cunha claimed the opening frame of the second half to extend the lead to 6–1. Chris Butler and Chris Docwra did manage to pick up a pair of consolation frames for London Stone, but it wasn’t enough to halt the momentum.
Staines Cons New closed the match out in style, winning the final three frames through Perry Baker, Grant Baker, and Steve Kent to seal a convincing 9–3 victory.
The win, combined with WR All Stars’ defeat to Egham & Hythe Youth, sees the gap at the top of the table reduced to just one point.
WR All Stars 5 - 7 Egham & Hythe Youth
WR All Stars came into the match unbeaten in the League, knowing they were up against a confident Egham & Hythe Youth side who had found strong form in recent Cup fixtures.
It was a close contest throughout with WR All Stars making the brighter start, moving into a 3–1 lead thanks to early wins from Michael Punter, Joe Delcourt and Stewart Harmes. A slice of luck then helped the youngsters back into the match, as Stan Sims and Harvey Hamblin benefitted from a couple of fluked snookers to level the scores.
Veteran Dan Reilly rolled back the years with back‑to‑back wins to give Egham & Hythe Youth a 5–3 lead, before the frame, or frames of the night unfolded.
The talking point came in frame nine, where a re‑rack was required with just one ball remaining for Mark Court after Stewart Harmes forced the reset with a unescapable snooker. Remarkably, the exact same situation occurred again in the replayed frame, this time with Mark snookering Stewart to force another re‑rack. Thirty minutes and the third frame later, the frame finally counted, as Mark broke off and left the balls perfectly for a dish. Three frames effectively played, but only one went on the scoresheet.
After the drama, WR All Stars rallied back into the match, but it wasn’t to be. Stan Sims secured a superb win over Joe Delcourt to clinch a 7–5 victory for Egham & Hythe Youth and hand WR All Stars their first League defeat of the season.
A special shout‑out goes to Tom Parsons, referee of the night, whose eagle‑eyed attention ensured the EPA racking rules were followed to the letter, including calling a foul against his own team that was barely visible to the naked eye. If you need a referee, Tom is your man.
