A proper cup classic the battle of the Clock — end-to-end and settled by the finest of margins. Clockhouse Z edged a 13-leg thriller, eventually running out 7–6 winners after neither side ever truly shook the other off. Momentum swung constantly, with the match level or one leg apart almost the entire way.
The teams were locked together at 3–3, 5–5, and 6–6, showing just how tight this contest was. Clockhouse Z found an extra gear late on, taking the final leg under real pressure to seal the win. Several close finishes kept both sides alive right to the end.
John Patrick starred for the away side and was deservedly named Player of the Match, as Clockhouse Z booked their place in the semi-finals after a gripping cup encounter.
Lawrence 8 Ballers 3–7 Clockhouse B
Division 2 Clockhouse B booked their semi-final place with a solid 7–3 win over Lawrence 8 Ballers at Lawrence WMC. The visitors took control early and never really let it slip, building a steady lead and seeing the match out professionally.
Joe Goddard impressed for the away team winning three frames with , Rich Millett and Paul Sellars winning two frames each. A composed display from the away team proved the difference on the night.
Huntington WMC C 7–4 Huntington WMC A
Rise of the Phoenix Huntington WMC C came out on top in an all-Huntington quarter-final, securing a 7–4 win to move into the semi-finals. The tie was closely fought in the early stages, with both sides trading legs and keeping the scores tight. However, WMC C found consistency as the match wore on, edging ahead and building a lead they wouldn’t relinquish with Tommy Lewis winning the last two frames three on the night to bring home the victory.
York Team Knockout Plate – Match Report
Round 2 of the York Team Knockout Plate delivered a night of tight contests, strong away performances, and a few emphatic home wins as eight teams booked their places in the next stage.
At the Clockhouse, it was a perfect night for the hosts. Clockhouse P edged a thriller against The Cross Keys Dunnington, grinding out a narrow 7–6 victory in one of the closest ties of the round. Their clubmates Clockhouse W followed that up with a more comfortable 7–3 win over The Beagle A, controlling the match throughout.
Over in Stamford Bridge, The Bay Horse made home advantage count with a solid 7–3 win against The Hogs Head A, pulling away in the latter stages after a competitive start.
There were several notable away victories. Lighthorseman showed resilience on the road, overturning The Beagle B 7–5 despite a strong home showing. Edinburgh Legs also travelled well, coming through a tough fixture at Green Hammerton Social Club to defeat The Hammers Too 7–5.
At Osbaldwick Sports Club, Huntington Sports Club A produced one of the most convincing performances of the night, beating The Ozzy Osbournes 7–3 with a composed and clinical display.
Back on home soil, The Windmill enjoyed a dominant evening, dispatching The Hammers 7–2 with little margin given away. Meanwhile, The Hogs Head B completed the line-up of qualifiers with a strong 7–4 away win over York Hospital Club B.
