Super League

In the Super League this week, there were some big wins and a couple of venue derby matches!

At Bishopthorpe, UptheBish took a 7-5 win over The Hammers. Originally 7-0 up, The Hammers won 5 in a row to secure crucial league points, meaning after this week The Hammers sit in a comfortable 5th table position. UptheBish’s Adam Myerscough won 3/7 frames for the home team.

A derby between Clockhouse A and Clockhouse Z ended in an 8-4 win for the A team. Dan Potter and Daniel Whitcombe won 4 between them for the winning team, with a good performance from the Z’s Mick Smith, winning 2/4 frames for the team.

Another Clockhouse team at home saw a loss for the P’s, who were defeated 5-7 by Bishopthorpe Social Club A, with Bishopthorpe’s Paul Broadbent winning 3/7 of the team frames.

Another derby happened at Huntington, with the Huntington WMC B team taking on the A’s. Huntington WMC A came out victorious with an 8-4 win. However, this did not deter the losing team from securing a dish in the 10th frame by Enzo Cupaiolo. Clive Hartley won both the opening frames of the match securing him as the away side’s Player of the Match. The home Player of the Match was given to the As’ Joe Snowden, who also won 2 of the frames in the match. This puts both teams level on 49 points in the league table.

A big win at home for another Huntington WMC side in the league – the C’s, who beat Burton Warriors 10-2. There was a dish from Huntington’s Tony Turner in the 7th frame of the match, who was deservedly given Player of the Match from the Warriors. The home side’s Player of the Match was awarded to Burton’s John Austwick. This pushes Huntington WMC C into top position in the table.

Another big win happened over at the Lighthorseman, as Heworth A emerged victorious with a 9-3 over the Fulford side. The Lighthorseman were originally 3-1 up in the match, but the Heworth side delivered from the 5th frame, winning all the rest of the frames in the game.

There was a narrow 7-5 win for Dick Turpin A over at the York Hospital Club venue, with Dick Turpin’s Tom Wilson and Matt Johnston winning 6 frames between them. The Hospital Club side awarded Tom Wilson as their Player of the Match. The Hospital Club’s Nick Fowler and Phil Curran won 4/5 frames between them.

Division 2

Some slight mishaps with score reporting, a 0-0 fixture on the app and a big shift in the league table due to an impressive win by the Edinburgh Legs keeps Division 2 interesting as always.

Only 5 fixtures on the app this week: with one of them being a 0-0 between Heworth B and Lawrence 8-Ballers – which I am well-informed through the group chat was an 8-4 win to Heworth B.

The Crescent A had some mishaps with the scoresheet – which was swiftly fixed and has now been corrected! At home, Crescent A took a 7-5 victory over The Hogs Head A. Crescent’s Lucas Bingham won 3/7 frames won, and Martin Tunnicliffe (which, in the match description is apparently to blame for the mishap) won 2/7. The Hogs Head’s Reece Fowler won 2/5 of the frame wins.

The biggest win of the night was the Edinburgh Legs at home against The Mitre – an 11-1 victory. The Legs move up to 5th in the league table, from being 8th last week. The home side awarded The Mitre’s Andy Simpson as their Player of the Match.

The More Mitre had a better night in the league, winning 9-3 against The Ozzy Osbournes at home. The Mitre side won all the first 8 frames, with The Ozzy Osbournes managing to clutch a few victories at the end.

The Edinburgh Arms A side faced another defeat this week from Haxby Sports Bar, who won 7-5. Haxby’s Paul Kelly reversed dished in the 6th frame and was awarded Player of the Match by the away side. Edinburgh Arms A Captain Jammy Clark was awarded as the home side’s Player of the Match (for the second week in a row) for winning 3/5 frames for the Arms. This puts both teams in joint 3rd in the league table, on 55 points.

Division 3

Game of the night was a top of the table clash between leaders Hogs Head B and 2nd placed Crescent B. The Hogs Head sprinted into a 7-0 lead to secure the win. The Crescent rallied though and won 4 of the last 5 frames. Final score 8-4. Each of the Hogs Head’s 4 players won 2 frames each. They have extended their lead at the top to 8 points. Crescent B hold onto 2nd place, though only just as it’s very close between the teams placed 2nd and 5th especially.

Huntington Sports Club A hung on to 3rd place with a 7-5 win over Clockhouse W, captain Steve Pepper won all his 3 frames for them.

The Hammers Too had a good 9-3 win against the Saddle Inn, with both Sean Bushby and Rob Hedditch winning all their 3 frames. That moved them up to 4th.

Win of the night though goes to the Windmill who moved into 4th place with a tremendous 11-1 win over Beagle A. Both Tom Mullen and David Baker won all 4 of their frames for the Windmill. Both the Hammers and the Windmill have a game in hand on those above them.

Elsewhere Touching Cloth beat the Hospital Club B 8-4. Huntington Sports Club B beat the Beagle B 7-4; Austen Aldridge won all his 3 for the Sports Club.

Finally, The Ainsty beat The Rec 7-5 with Billy Speed winning all his 3 frames for the Ainsty.
