Super League

Some exciting matches took place in the Super League yesterday, with a fair few dishes and some scores meaning the top half of the table looks extremely close. The two big wins of the night were for Clockhouse A and Dick Turpin A, as both teams continue to put in strong performances in the league.

Two of the Huntington teams were at home with week, with the Huntington WMC A beating the York Hospital Club A 8-4. There were strong Huntington performances from Kristian Strangeway and Andrew Coverdale, winning two games each. The home side awarded Hospital Club’s Kris Hanson as their Player of the Match, with the away side awarding it to Huntington’s Joe Snowden.

The other side at home, Huntington WMC C did not have the same luck, facing a 7-5 defeat to UptheBish. Despite this, Huntington’s Adam Clark dished in the 8th frame and was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match by the away side. For Bish, Adam Myerscough had a strong performance, contributing 3 of the 7 frame wins of the night.

The Huntington WMC B team found themselves away to Heworth A, with the match resulting in a 6-6 draw. Notably, Heworth awarded Huntington’s Nigel Bruce as their Player of the Match. Heworth attempted a late comeback by winning 3 frames in a row at 5-2 down, and a win from Steve Thomas prevented a Huntington win.

At the Green Hammerton SC, home side The Hammers took a 7-5 win over the Lighthorseman. The home side awarded Paul Maude as their Player of the Match, for winning 3 of the 5 won frames. The Lighthorsemen awarded theirs to Owen Blacker-Meek.

The Burton Warriors also took a 7-5 win over Clockhouse Z, with the Warriors putting in a strong performance at home from 3-1 down. Burton’s John Austwick won all 3 of his frames played.

Clockhouse A had a strong 9-3 win away against Bishopthorpe SC A. Clockhouse’s Dan Potter, Martin Oxberry and Danny Bodden won 3 frames each, with Danny concluding the night with a reverse dish. This puts Clockhouse 2nd in the league table, behind joint leaders Dick Turpin A and Huntington WMC C.

The biggest win of the night was over at Dick Turpin A, with a 10-2 win at home to Clockhouse P. This big win included a dish by Matt Johnston in the 7th frame. Dick Turpin will hope to continue with big wins to stay at the top of the table on Matchday 9, where they face the Hospital Club A.

Division 2

Things are certainly hotting up in Division 2, with some surprising wins and big victories this week.

At Huntington, The Hogs Head beat the More Mitre 7-5. Despite being 7-1 down, this did not deter the More Mitre team from claiming victories in the final 4 frames of the match.

A more successful story for the other Mitre team at home, beating the Edinburgh Arms A 7-5. The home team awarded Edinburgh Arms captain Jammy Clark the Player of the Match for his two wins, and the away side awarded theirs to Mitre’s Jack Williams. A shoutout is well deserved to the Mitre’s Abi Bell for strong performances despite only being a recent addition to the team and for multitasking on the bar!

It was a great week at home for the Bay Horse, getting their first win of the season, beating RackEmUp 10-2. A well-deserved Player of the Match was given to Bay Horse’s Joseph Smith for contributing 3 frame wins. The two wins for Rack’EmUp were both won by Kaiden Butler.

Clockhouse B see their narrowest win yet at home to Crescent A. Clockhouse won 7-5, still retaining their top of the table spot. This continues their undefeated streak in the league. The home side awarded Crescent’s Nick Feetenby the Player of the Match, with an honourable mention to Crescent’s Lucas Bingham for winning 3 of the 5 frames won by the Crescent.

Despite another venue mishap for the Cross Keys, they had a good win against the Edinburgh Legs, beating them 7-5. Hosted at the Edinburgh, the home side awarded Rob Chappell as their Player of the Match. Captain Beth Hutson won 2/5 frames for the Legs, notably in great form after her winning her singles match earlier in the night! The Cross Keys won the final 3 frames to claim a win.

Over at the Osbaldwick Sports Club, The Ozzy Osbournes claimed a 7-5 victory against Heworth B. A seemingly balanced match throughout, the Osbournes won the final two frames (by Pascal Charles and Graham Pinder) to secure the win.

Top 5 in the Player of the Season as it stands:

Rich Millett (Clockhouse B)

Jammy Clark (Edinburgh Arms A)

Ryan Lockwood (Cross Keys Dunnington)

Paul Sellars (Clockhouse B)

Division 3

The leaders at the start of play, Hogs Head B extended their lead slightly with a good 8-4 win at Beagle A. The scores were level at 3-3 but then the Hogs Head managed to pull away, perhaps because they’d by then got used to the vagaries of the table a bit, though I’m not sure the home team knew where the ball was going to go any better than they did! Rich Guest won all his 3 frames for the Hogs Head.

Second placed Crescent B remain second after a 7-5 win against the Ainsty. Captain Shaun Bancroft and Warren Mead won both their frames for the Crescent; Warren’s frames move him into first place on his own in the Player of the Season table, 1 point ahead of Danny James. Matt Arnold won both his frames for the Ainsty.

Third placed Huntington Sports Club A came back from 4-1 down to draw 6-6 with the Clockhouse’s Touching Cloth. Captain Harry McInerney and Jason Annett won 2 frames each for Touching Cloth, Steve Pepper won both his for the Sports Club.

The Hammers Too had a good 8-4 at Huntington Sports Club B. Gary Gibson won all his 3 frames for the Hammers and Geoff Almond both his. Riane Leeming won 2 for the Sports Club.

Top 5 in the Player of the Season as it stands:

Danny James (Huntington Sports Club A)

Raffaele Ingriselli (The Windmill)

Bradley Seavers (Crescent B)
