As promised, Match Week 4 did not disappoint, with big wins for some teams, and close battles throughout.

Super League

After their 6-6 draw against Clockhouse P last week, UptheBish certainly made a statement this week with their 10-2 victory over York Hospital Club A. This places them on 29 points at the top of the table, moving up from 6th place last week!

A fantastic night at home for Heworth A sees them beat Clockhouse Z 8-4, with Heworth’s Paul Mahoney impressively getting a dish and a reverse dish in the match. This places Paul at the top of the dish table across all teams. The home team awarded Clockhouse’s Roman Smith as Player of the Match.

A narrow 7-5 win for last season’s Division 2 winners Bishopthorpe SC A against Huntington WMC A puts them on two back-to-back wins, making a positive start to their season. Huntington awarded Bishopthorpe Captain Kwai Mo as their Player of the Match, with the away team awarding it to Huntington’s Danny Bhanvra for his two opening wins of the match.

Claiming a 9-3 victory against Clockhouse P, Huntington WMC C find themselves joint 2nd in the table with Clockhouse A. Huntington’s Bri Baxter had a great contribution by winning 3 frames in the match.

A seemingly back and forth match over at Fulford sees the Lighthorseman take a 7-5 victory over Huntington WMC B, marking their first win of the season on the back of some very tricky opening games. The Lighthorseman’s David Thomas won 3 frames in the match.

There was a tough fight between The Hammers and Clockhouse A, with the frames neck and neck throughout. The match ended in a 6-6 draw, with Clockhouse’s Simon Newby and The Hammers’ Lance Cameron winning 3 frames each. This still keeps Clockhouse A in a comfortable 2nd in the league table.

Division 2

The Clockhouse B team certainly had a strong performance at home, beating The Edinburgh Arms A 10-2. Both the Edinburgh Arms’ 2 frames were won by new recruit Tom Molyneux. The strong Clockhouse side have been undefeated so far, with them facing Haxby Sports Bar in next week’s cup fixture. The Edinburgh Arms face last year’s cup runners up Dick Turpin A.

The Edinburgh Legs faced an 8-4 defeat to Heworth B at home, with a strong performance from Heworth’s Martin West. The home side awarded their Player of the Match to Heworth’s Robbie Thompson. The Legs take on The Rec next week in the Team Plate Cup, with Heworth drawing last year’s cup winners Clockhouse A.

The Crescent A continue their strong start to the season, with an 8-4 win over Rack’Em Up. The home side awarded Crescent’s Nick Feetenby as their Player of the Match, with a strong performance from Crescent’s Jef Morris too.

Haxby Sports Bar claimed a 7-5 victory away against The Bay Horse, which was a close game for both sides until Haxby won the final four frames back-to-back in a joint effort between Paul Kelly and Mark Jagger. This places Haxby 3rd in the league table after this week’s win, behind Crescent A and Clockhouse B.

The Cross Keys Dunnington settled for a 6-6 draw against More Mitre. The Cross Keys’ Ryan Lockwood and Paul McGouran won both their frames and claimed the final two to prevent a Mitre win. The More Mitre sit at a comfortable 7th in the league table, with them facing fellow Division 2 team Lawrence 8 Ballers in the cup next week.

Over in Huntington, The Hogs Head A beat the Lawrence 8 Ballers 7-5 at home. A strong performance from both sides saw The Hogs Head winning 5 frames in a row after being 3-0 down. From the 8 Ballers side, Samson Wildwood and Ricky Holloway won 4 frames between them.

Concluding with a fixture at The Mitre, another close game saw The Ozzy Osbournes triumph with a 7-5 victory. The Mitre awarded their Player of the Match to the Ozzy Osbourne Kevin Benson. Next week, The Mitre takes on Super League side The Hammers in their cup fixture.

Division 3

All change at the top as Clockhouse K moved up from 4th in the table to 1st with an impressive 9-3 win over Beagle B. Jason Annett was key to the Clockhouse team’s victory winning all 3 of his frames. Brad Richardson also won all 3 of his in defeat. The new Clockhouse K team seem to be emerging as favourites to win the division….. no pressure then lads!

The only team to have won all 4 of their matches though are the Hammers Too and they’re also expected to be in the promotion mix at the end of the season, having just missed out in the play offs last season. They edged a close encounter 7-5 at the other Clockhouse team in this division, Clockhouse W.

Gary Gibson won all 3 of his frames for the Hammers, to keep him in close contention in 2= at the moment in the Player of the Season table (Danny Peace of Clockhouse K still leads, just). Mark Thompson of Clockhouse W won all his 3 frames in defeat.

Hospital Club B are the only other remaining undefeated team in the division and after 3 successive draws, they had a very good 8-4 win over previous table toppers, The Rec. The Lonsdale family led the way for the Hospital Club, with Conrad, Alan and Dean each winning 2 frames, James Platt won 2 for them as well. The Rec are now 2nd in the table and the Hospital Club move up to 6th.

Another team who had an impressive 8-4 win were the Windmill who beat a slightly off colour Hogshead B, who dropped from 2nd to 5th in the table. Rafaele Ingriselle shone for the Windmill winning all his 3 frames.

4th in the table are Huntington Sports Club A who had a good 8-4 home win against The Ainsty with Michael Baker winning his 2 frames. The other Sports Club team, the B side, with a number of players new to team play, lost a close match 7-5 at Crescent B. Bradley Seavers impressed for the Crescent winning his 3 frames; Colin Aspinall and Emma Rollinson, freshly (?) back from Benidorm, won 2 for the Sports Club B.
