Super League

This week in the York Wednesday League saw busy crowds at Clockhouse, with all their Super League teams playing at home. Several matches ended in narrow 7-5 wins, showing that even though the league has only just kicked off, it is all to play for this season.

Both Clockhouse A and Clockhouse Z managed to clutch 7-5 victories over Huntington WMC C and The Hammers. For the Clockhouse A side, an impressive run from Craig Fox saw him claim 3 essential frames for the eventual 7-5 victory. A back-and-forth match between the two sides saw Huntington’s Tony Turner with a reverse dish. Unfortunately, this was not enough to secure a win for the away team.

A similar story for The Hammers saw Lance Cameron with a reverse dish too, with it unfortunately not being enough to stop the narrow 7-5 win for Clockhouse Z.

Clockhouse P and UptheBish had an extremely close game, with Alice Paylor from Bish winning the final frame to settle for a 6-6 draw. The away side awarded Clockhouse’s Gary Pearce as the Player of the Match.

An impressive attempt from the Lighthorsemen saw them win 5 frames in a row from 6-0 down to chase a draw against York Hospital Club A. This fell short due to Ian Strickland’s win in the final frame, securing a 7-5 win for the Hospital Club A.

Over at Bishopthorpe Social Club, the home side won 7-5 over Heworth A. Bishopthorpe’s Dan King was essential in this match, securing 3 frames including the final frame of the night.

A 7-5 victory happened at Huntington WMC B, but for the away side Burton Warriors. Burton’s John Austwick was essential to winning 3 frames, with Burton awarding Nigel Bruce as the Player of the Match.

The final 7-5 victory to report is Dick Turpin A’s win over Huntington WMC A. Dick Turpin’s Matt Johnston secured 3 important frames. Despite Dick Turpin winning 4 frames consecutively, Huntington’s fighting spirit seemed to continue, finishing the match 7-5 despite them being 6-1 down.

The vast amount of 7-5 results places the table in an interesting position as seen below, this week with Dick Turpin leading by 24 points, followed closely by Clockhouse P and Clockhouse A.

The Crescent continued their strong win streak at home, beating another Mitre team 9-3.  The Crescent’s Nick Feetenby secured 3 important frames, with Sarah Tonin and Lucas Bingham claiming two each. The home side awarded Jack Williams their Player of the Match, and the away side understandably awarding it to Nick Feentenby.

The Edinburgh Arms A won 8-4 at home against The Bay Horse. Captain Jammy Clark won 3 games, placing him as a strong contender for Player of the Season this year. The 9th frame saw a fantastic snooker escape from Ellie Hart to place the home team 8-1 up. The Bay Horse won the final 3 frames of the night, and the home side awarded Jack Hudson the Player of the Match.

Haxby’s Mark Jagger seemed to be essential in settling the draw, winning two fixtures including the final one of the match.

Another tense 6-6 draw happened at the Mitre, in the More Mitre and Rack’Em Up fixture. Rack’Em Up’s Miley Imesom won two important frames, with More Mitre’s Elliot Pagdin securing both the final frame and the Player of the Match.

In Division 3, The Rec (Copmanthorpe) went to the top of the table with a comfortable 9-3 win over the Crescent B. They were spurred on by Dawn Potter who won both of her frames.
