Super League

The second week of fixtures in the Ultra Fabrication York Pool Super League saw several close games, with all teams in the top division fighting to make their mark.

Clockhouse A followed up on their win from last week to clutch a 7-5 win over UptheBish, with Clockhouse’s Daniel Witcombe securing the final frame to prevent a draw. This leaves defending champions Clockhouse A sitting at a comfortable 3rd position in the league table, behind joint leaders Dick Turpin and Clockhouse P.

After their defeat to Heworth A last week, Huntington WMC A fought back this week to claim a strong 8-4 victory against the Burton Warriors.

The Hammers played Bishopthorpe SC A at home, securing a 7-5 win. A tense affair at the back end of the match saw The Hammers nailing the final 3 frames, in a match that seemed back and forth throughout. The home side rewarded David Hollings the Player of the Match for Bishopthorpe, due to his impressive 3-win performance.

The Clockhouse P team travelled to The Lighthorseman, with the Clockhouse side certainly putting in an impressive performance to claim a 10-2 victory. A first win for the new Clockhouse recruit Roger Cheek, two wins each for Ped Manfredi, Frank Nicholson, and Neil Nippon, and three wins for Gary Pearce. Clockhouse P hope to continue their strong start to the season with a home game next week.

A tense match against the Huntington WMC C and Clockhouse Z concluded in a win for the Huntington side at home who won the final four frames of the fixture to secure a 7-5 win.

Huntington WMC B and York Hospital Club A settled for a 6-6 draw, with a notable part of the match being a reverse dish for Enzo Cupaiolo from Huntington.

After a comfortable 9-3 win against Heworth A, Dick Turpin A sit at the joint top of the table after this week’s league matches. Tom Wilson and Matt Johnston contributed 6 frame wins between them to continue Dick Turpin’s impressive start to the season.

Division 2

Kicking off the Division 2 scores is the highly anticipated Edinburgh Arms derby. The Edinburgh Arms A faced the Edinburgh Legs, seeing some close matches with a tense yet enjoyable atmosphere. The addition of yet another Edinburgh Arms A player, Finley O’Shaughnessy, stole the show with great clearances, with the opposition side deservedly awarding him Player of the Match. The A’s got their revenge this season, claiming a narrow 7-5 victory despite the Legs’ attempt to fight back.

Heworth B took a 7-5 victory from Rack’Em Up, who made an impressive attempt to overturn Heworth at home, with Kaiden Butler winning key frames to try keep them in the match. As a result, this places Heworth in joint 4th with the Edinburgh Legs and More Mitre.

As mentioned in last week’s report, the newly promoted Hogs Head A become the team to watch this season, with an impressive 9-3 win over More Mitre. The sides awarded Reece Fowler and Abi Bell as the Players of the Match.

Another 9-3 victory occurred elsewhere in the league for the Haxby Sports Bar, who were away at the Cross Keys Dunnington. Haxby's Mark Jagger finalised an excellent performance from the team with a dish in the final frame. The Haxby side commented on the great atmosphere at the match.

Haxby currently sit at top of the league table, closely followed by Crescent A and The Edinburgh Arms A

Division 3

In Division 3, Clockhouse K and The Hogs Head B moved to joint top of the table at this early stage of the season with impressive 10-2 wins over the Saddle Inn and The Ainsty respectively.

Danny Peace and Max Warren won 3 frames each for Clockhouse K and Andy McDonald and Oliver Bird (who has won all 6 of his league frames so far) 3 each for The Hogs Head B.

The only other player in this division to have won all 6 of his frames is Danny James of Huntington Sports Club A but his efforts were in vain this week as the Hammers Too came from 4-5 down to win 7-5.

It was girl power to the fore in a tight match between Clockhouse W and Huntington Sports Club B, the latter coming away with a 7-5 win. Bridie Murray played a blinder winning her 3 frames including a tense last frame to clinch the win, captain Emma Rollinson also won her 3 frames.

Elsewhere, The Rec are now 3rd in the table, 1 point behind the top two, after a good 8-4 win against The Beagle A. The Windmill beat Beagle B 7-5, with Raffaele Ingriselli and Tom Mullen winning their 3; York Hospital Club B and Crescent B shared the spoils 6-6.
