Cup finals decided
Phil Sayers Memorial Trophy holders Might Oak survived a great comeback from Chapel Libs 'A' to make it through to another final. The Oak were off to a flyer going 5 - 1 up , Callum Mulhern knocking in a reverse dish. Chapel End then entered the pot zone to reel off 4 quick frames and level the match at 5 a piece. Any thoughts of a famous comeback victory were sadly (for them) quashed as the Oak's Steve Nesden & Vivek Makh steered the them over the line. They will face the Atack Snooker Club who upset the form book by beating Coton Bandits 4 - 3 in a blackball shoot out after the match finished all square. The Bandits looked set for victory until a bounce out changed the out come allowing Rod Brown to level the match. Steve Cooper knocked in
a reverse dish, before joining Danny Barr, Rob Dutton and Shaun Orr potting the black in in the shootout. In the Doug Postin Memorial Shield last season's runners up Fox Inn made another final after they squeezed pasted Coniston Tavern 'A' 1 - 0 in a shootout they will face Coton Old Boys who beat Premier League outfit Gurkha Corner 7 - 4 in another very tight cup match. Fred Starkey on cue with a super fine cut on the black, 86 years young and still knocking them in well done pal, Fred was ably assisted by Andy's Tippet and Williams as the old boys reached the finish line. In night of comebacks Lucky Poke n Hope produced the the best one of the night to knock out Dave Burnett Memorial Trophy holders Kingswood Tavern. They were looking at an early exit at 5 - 2 down but they potted the next 5 frames to gain an unlikely victory, Ronnie Golby & Drew Jones starring for the Poke n Hope. They will take on
Party @ the Hearty who themselves survived a terrific comeback from Coniston Tavern 'B'. Leading 5 - 2 the Connie brought in back to 5 all but wins from Baz Millerchip & Gary Sandham saw the Hearty start to Party.
On the league front The Travellers potted a nice 7 - 5 victory over Chapel End Libs 'B' with Allan Henton getting the match winner. The win sees the Travs open up a 15 point lead over their rivals with a game in hand.
