Any Public house and its Players entering into the Douglas & District Pool League do so on the understanding that they agree to abide by the following rules.

1. Player Registration

  • Only registered players who have paid the £10 registration fee may play.

  • Players are tied to their registered team.

  • Captains may register new players before 7.30pm on match nights (new players must not have played elsewhere in the Douglas & District league or cup matches).

  • Landlords/officials may play for any team from their venue.

⚠️ Non-registered players: Any team using a non-registered player will forfeit all points for that match (league) or automatically lose the fixture (cup).

2. Player Restrictions

  • Captains must ensure no player is barred from the away venue. Landlords may refuse entry at their discretion.

  • Any player banned by the police/courts from licensed premises may not play until the ban ends.

  • Registered players under the age of 18 may not be allowed in all venues. It is the Captains responsibility to check that a venue allows U18s in to play and ensure they have left the venue by 9pm if required.

3. Matches played within the Casino

  • If teams play from within the Casino, the visiting team has the right to request, without giving reason, another venue.

  • The Captain of the away team must inform the committee at the earliest opportunity. The committee will then review and confirm the appropriate arrangements for the fixture, which may include a venue selected by the home team, or the away team playing with the remaining available players.

4. Transfers

  • Multiple player transfers from a withdrawn team are not allowed.

  • One or two individual transfers may be permitted at the Committee’s discretion.

  • Players or teams changing pubs must apply before 31st December. Both Captains must approve a player transfer.

5. Match Start Time

  • Matches begin at 8.30pm sharp.

  • Start time may be moved forward if both Captains agree.

  • Captains should ensure their teams are ready to avoid disputes or unnecessary delays.

6. League Match Format

Premier League:

  • 7 Singles games (each player can only play once, unless using Captain’s Pick)

  • 3 Doubles games (any pairing from the team)

Division 1 & 2:

  • 6 Singles games (each player can only play once, unless using Captain’s Pick)

  • 2 Doubles games (any pairing from the team)

7. League Match Rules

  • If short of a player, Captain’s Pick can be used (league only, not cup). The opposing Captain chooses who plays twice.

  • Home team selects the first player, then selection alternates between the teams.

  • All frames must be played.

  • Home team referees all matches.

8. Cup Match Format

  • 6 Singles games

  • 3 Doubles games

9. Cup Match Rules

  • No Captains Pick allowed.

  • If a player is absent when called, the frame is lost.

  • Games may be held back only if both captains agree and the late player is confirmed as en route.

  • Games are drawn at random at the start of the game.

  • Once the match is won no more frames need to be played.

10. Scotch Doubles Communication

  • No communication is allowed during the visit. The visit begins as soon as the balls come to rest on the opponents turn (or the white is returned to the table if it has been pocketed).
  • This includes no communication following the break.

11. Results & Tables

  • Both captains must input results on the RackEmApp live scorecard during the match.

  • League tables are updated immediately when the Captains have approved the result.

11. Conduct & Disputes

  • Verbal or physical abuse will not be tolerated — penalties may include suspension from the league for a period of time, removal as captain, or a lifetime ban depending on the severity.

  • Disputes must be submitted to the Committee for review as set out in the Code of Conduct document.

12. Withdrawals

  • If a team withdraws, all their results are void and remaining fixtures are awarded as maximum points to opponents.

  • If this happens in the last 3 weeks of the season, the Committee may review how this affects final positions.

Captains are responsible for ensuring their team understands and follows these rules.
