Dunn & Lee pot the Scotch Doubles
Glenn Dunn & Daz Lee who were on cue to take the Scotch Doubles title at the Lucky Break Pool Hall last night. The Mighty Oak duo out potted Atherstone Cons pairing of Neil Randle & John Grimes in what can only be described as an unbelievable final. Earlier in the evening both finalists came through tough semi final matches with the Midland Railway pairing of Matt Guy & Steve Fox running the eventually winners really close in their last 4 encounter while Aidan Haddon & Ant McGuffie really should of took John & Chick to a decider in their semi final, both were absolutely terrific matches though. The final saw some top class pool played throughout until the final frame where it seemed nobody actually wanted to win. Glenn & Daz took the opening 2 frames before missing an opportunity to wrap the final up 3 – 0, allowing John & Chick to nick it, they duly won the next frame with a great clearance setting up a final frame decider. After Chick broke dry it looked for all the world that Dunn & Lee would reverse dish for the title but an inexplicable miss on their penultimate ball offered the Connie pair a life line. After a little tactical play the oak pair gained another great opening to take the final win but they missed a pot to let the Connie pair back in only for them to run out of position gifting a chance back to the Oak lads, who again let it slip. This amazing segment of the final saw the Connie pair back in with a great chance to win only for them to leave themselves out of position again gifting another opportunity to the Daz & Glenn which they took this time. Quite an unbelievable final frame but all in all a great night of pool, I bet Daz’s back is killing him this morning haha!!
